What Part of No Don't You Understand? Part 1

Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.  Every day with Jesus, I love him more and more.  Jesus saves and keeps me.  And, he’s the one I’m living for.  Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before.

Hi there.  My name is Mary Magdalene.  I am sure many of you have heard of me.  I have been walking and talking with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for a very long time.  I was walking around heaven all day, just living my best life.  And I was feeling like… you know… like… Clarence in that Jimmy Stewart movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”.  Just hoping to get his wings and trying to get to Earth to help somebody.  Or, you know, like Denzel Washington in “The Preacher’s Wife” when he says, “there’s this long line of angels just waiting for the opportunity to come down here”.  So, I’m looking around, and I’m seeing stuff.  So, I ask the head honcho to let me come on down here and prayerfully share an inspiring word.

To all those tuning in to this message, I thank you for opening the door and letting a touch of heaven come into your homes.  Man, this technology thing is something else.  We didn’t have technology in my day.

Anyway, I’m bopping along, hearing this song in the air.  And man.  I just kept listening over and over again.  Did you know you can just push this little thing – oh yes, it’s called an icon.  Just push that icon on the screen, and the song will play over and over again.  Anyway, I was just listening and bopping my head and moving my shoulders.  Oh man, I guess you can say that ’m just a little bit country.  Lorrie Morgan’s “What part of no don’t you understand” was right on time!  That inspiring refrain rang stronger and stronger in my heavenly realm…

What part of No, don’t you understand?  To put it plain and simple, I’m not into one-night stands.  I’ll be glad to explain it if it’s too hard to comprehend.  What part of no don’t you understand?

Let us pray.  Heavenly Father, we thank you for the opportunity to share, to learn, to explore your Word.  We thank you for who you have been, who you are, and who you will be in our collective and individual lives.  At this moment, please give me a word that will lift hearts, change souls, and inspire someone to seek Your presence.  May you be pleased with this word and with the servant who brings it.  It is in the matchless name of Jesus that we pray.  Amen.

Here I am, spending a few earthly moments with you.  I want to thank Lorrie Morgan for giving me a relevant question to pose to you: “What part of no don’t you understand?  Now, Ms. Morgan was speaking in a human sense, but I want to speak to you in a spiritual sense.

After all, “no” is one of the first words infants learn. I’ve heard toddlers say no with a whole lot of force and conviction.  So, I am not quite sure why it is that when we grow up, when we are living our lives, and when we say we walk with Jesus, that we all of a sudden don’t understand a word we have known all our lives.

What part of no don’t you understand?

Now that we have the question, let’s bring Jesus into our conversation.  Jesus wants to know why you are treating His love, His grace, His mercy like it is a one-night stand.  You do know that this walk with Jesus is not supposed to be no one nightstand, don’t you?

Well, from what I have been seeing from above, it seems like folks got lost somewhere.  Has it been too hard for you to understand?  Well, I’m here to explain – to help you understand.

Who am I to “talk”, you ask?  I know that my life on earth was rocky for a while.  Yes, I do confess. I was a mess!!  All you have to do is look up Luke 8 verses 1 and 2 to discover that truth.  Yes, I was naughty. The devil tried to still my heart.  But Jesus freed my body, spirit, and soul from those 7 evil demons.  After that, knowing Jesus helped me get it together.  Every day with Jesus was sweeter than the day before. I fervently decided to follow Him.

Don’t believe me?  I encourage you to consider Bible passages found in Mathew, Mark, and John.  Despite those 7 demons, the Holy Spirit led me to His crucifixion.  That’s Matthew 27:56-57.  Jesus must have been pleased with my praise because He appeared to me first when He arose.  Look in Mark 16:9. I had the blessed privilege of going to tell the disciples that Jesus had risen.  John 20:18.

Surely you will allow these biographical tidbits to bear witness to the saving of my soul.  For these reasons, I have been deemed qualified, and I have been allowed to descend from God’s heavenly realm to share this moment in time with you.

Now, let’s get down to business… It seems like too many of you humans, whether you mean it or not, have decided that your relationship with Christ should be regarded… is being treated like a one-night stand.

Oh, you accept the Lord today.  But then you go back to the old you before the sun goes down.  Oh la, la, the prayers that reach God’s ears in the morning.  But then you forget your walk by 12 noon.  You come to church and have a Holy Ghost time in the Lord.  You sometimes attend Sunday School or a prayer meeting.  By that evening, you seem to lose your mind.  You may or may not use your gifts in service to the Lord.  You may be gifted with the skill to organize community service ministries.  But when you’re done, you forget to thank the Lord for that blessed gift.

During one of your Jesus on the mainline one-night stands, you enjoy time together, you share and give, you chit and chat, and communicate.  But the next day, the next hour, the very next second, you don’t call on the name of Jesus, and you seem not to remember that He’s your friend.  Some folks get so big that they no longer feel they need Him.  They simply move on with life.  That is, until the next opportunity for you to feel the reward of a one-night stand…

Should that really be how we approach our relationship with Christ?  For goodness’s sake, we are in a new year!  Please hear me when I say that we in heaven have concluded that you must not understand!!  And that is no way to start the year!!  Now, you just settle yourselves down and ponder that for a moment…
